Business Events Grant Scheme

The Australian Government has announced a $50 million Business Events Grant program to encourage businesses to return to the event forum and promote Australian businesses.

Food & Hospitality Queensland has been confirmed as an approved event for funding, which means you may be eligible to claim up to 50% of the cost of exhibiting from the Australian Government. Applications will close when funding is exhausted, meaning it is important to submit your application as soon as possible.


Open date:

4 Jan 2021 – 30 March 2021. On 11 March 2021 the Australian Government announced an extension to the Business Events Grant program with new guidelines. The current program closed on 30 March 2021 but will re-open from April 2021 through to 30 June 2021.

Applications commenced under current guidelines must have been submitted by 30 March 2021. Applications under the new guidelines can be done when the extension opens in April 2021.

What do you get?

Current Guidelines: Grant funding from $10,000 per entity per application up to a maximum of $250,000. The minimum total eligible expenditure must be $20,000.

New Guidelines: The minimum grant amount will be reduced to $5,000 to allow smaller businesses the opportunity to apply. The minimum total eligible expenditure must be $10,000.

Note, the total eligible expenditure is per company – not per show. An exhibitor can participate in any of the Approved Business Events to reach a minimum total eligible expenditure cumulatively in 2021. Both Food & Hospitality Queensland and our sister event Foodservice Australia are both on this list.

How do you apply?

Ensure you read the grant opportunity guidelines, sample application form and sample grant agreement before you apply.

To apply, you must submit your application through the Australian Government online portal. You’ll need to set up an account when you first log into the portal.

Who is this for?

Australian businesses including sole traders. To be eligible you must:

  • have an ABN and be one of the following entities:
  • an individual (sole trader)
  • a partnership
  • a company, incorporated in Australia
  • an incorporated trustee on behalf of a trust
  • an Industry Association promoting the selling or buying of a product or service on behalf of its members.

Who is not eligible?

You are not eligible to apply if you are:

  • unincorporated association
  • any organisation not included in above eligibility criteria
  • trust (however, an incorporated trustee may apply on behalf of a trust)
  • a Commonwealth, State, Territory or local government body (including government business enterprises)
  • a non-corporate Commonwealth entity.

Eligible expenditure

You can only spend grant funds on eligible expenditure you have incurred on an agreed project as defined in your grant agreement.

For exhibitors, eligible expenditure items may include:

  • hire of the exhibition space
  • travel, accommodation and registration of staff members
  • sponsorship of an event
  • event and display set up costs, including the design, manufacture and shipping of exhibits and expenses related to running a COVID safe exhibit
  • promotional material, including program collateral, directly related to exhibiting at the event
  • digital promotion, including the setup, display and design of audiovisual material up to a maximum of 50 percent of the non-collateral eligible project costs
  • catering for networking activities as part of exhibiting at a pre-approved event
  • contractor/s costs associated with exhibiting at a pre-approved event.
